Consciousness, Mind, Ego, and the Role of a True Guru When the soul identifies with the mind instead of resting in its original state, the mind becomes dominant. In this condition, the mind begins to control thoughts, actions, and decisions, appearing independent and powerful. Ego is not a separate energy. It is an impure formation of the mind, created by habits, conditioning, and false identification. Ego operates using the energy of consciousness, yet at the same time it conceals that very consciousness. All energy that sustains the body and the universe flows through consciousness. The ultimate source of this energy is the Ultimate Consciousness, the foundation of all existence. When the mind is directed outward, it becomes entangled in sensory pleasures and illusions.
